American Whitewater is conducting a survey to directly gather information from paddlers that experienced the Dolores River during the 2017 Boating Release from McPhee Dam. The feedback you provide us, will help us understand the economic impact of river-recreation to local communities, inform how successfully releases for boating were managed this year, and help us improve releases in the future. Please take this survey after each time you paddle the Dolores River. Information from each unique trip will be extremely valuable to the community!

The survey was designed to be comprehensive, collecting important information from you while respecting your patience. Please take your time to respond to each question presented in the survey.   If you paddled more than one section this season (and hopefully you have), you will be guided to answer questions that relate to each section, separately.

Since 2007, American Whitewater has played a leading role in building consensus on improved reservoir operations at McPhee Dam, and in restoring recreational streamflows to the lower Dolores River. Heavy snowpack and elevated carry-over storage in McPhee Reservoir this year, have provided over 275,000 acre-feet of water to release to the lower Dolores, that we aim to manage for ample paddling opportunities, the benefit native fish, and to restore a healthy river channel. 

American Whitewater is working with the Dolores Water Conservancy District, the Bureau of Reclamation, Montezuma Valley Irrigation Company, Southwest Water Conservation District, and local conservation groups to ensure that releases meet these downstream goals.  This partnership needs input from paddlers that floated the Dolores River this year, so that we can better understand how management actions impact your experiences on the river.

Your participation in this study will help us understand if these goals are being met, and directly guide American Whitewater's advocacy for improvements in how the Reservoir is managed in the future.
